Walking: On April 9th, 13 months, Shelby began to walk. Once she decided it was time to do this thing (walking), she took off. She was stable, confident and thrilled. She moves around very well now—speed walking and even a little trout. She’s too cute when she walks too.
Eating: Completely on table food. Loves to eat. Will eat most anything you give her. We started given her a spoon to practice with at 13 months. She took to it quit well. She uses a spoon to feed herself oatmeal, cereal, and mac & cheese. Some of Shelby’s
One of Shelby’s newest things is “dipping” her food. Ketchup, ranch, sour cream, and applesauce are her favorite dips. I love to watch her dip her food. She picks up a piece of food and ever so gently dunks it into the “dip”. Then, she puts it in her mouth and SMILES a proud smile. She isn’t picky about dipping either. She will dip anything. For example, I gave her strawberries for dessert the other day and she dipped them in her ketchup-–YUCK! She made a bitter face at the first taste of it, but continued to chew and then smiled that oh so proud smile that comes with dipping. Dipping makes her happy!
Sleeping: Shelby takes one nap a day. She goes down around noon and sleeps two hours on most days. Bedtime is at 645/7 and she’s out until morning. Not a peep, not a sound. (So thankful!) From 12-14 months, she was waking up around 645/700 A.M. However, during the past month, Shelby now sleeps to 7:30 or 8:00 on most mornings. My girl loves her sleep. 12 to 13 hours at night, plus a two hour nap…oh to be a babe again.
She sleeps with two blankets—one held in her arm, the other just near by. Her blankets are her cuddle and comfort items. She still loves to roll and cuddle up in her blanket. She can see her blanket from across the room and she’ll bee line straight for it. She then lays down on the floor and snuggles/rolls in it as she coos and sings—her happy place. So sweet.
Travels: Traveled to Round Rock Austin in April to visit with Grammie, Poppie and Aunt Amanda and to celebrate Easter.
In May, we moved from Houston, (Spring), Texas to Atlanta, (Newnan) Georgia. This lead to many new experiences for Shelby. Both Levi and Shelby had their first overnight in a hotel. She slept great and loved exploring the room and looking out the big window in our room. On May 26th, Shelby had her first plane ride. She flew, on AirTran, from Houston, Texas to Branson Missouri then onto Atlanta, Georgia. I’ll be honest, I was nervous. Shelby is a very busy girl, independent and doesn’t like to sit still for very long, especially in someone's lap. She slept a little on both flights and spent the rest of her time just people watching. I only had to wrestle with her a bit, but thanks to the Ergo Baby (baby sling/carrier) she was content. On May 27th, we arrived in Newnan, Georgia—our new home.
Shelby received a sticker from the TSA agent for doing such a great job on her first security experience.
In June, we visited Birmingham, Alabama for my sister’s wedding. We were able see lot of my side of the family, which was so refreshing and fun. Plus, Shelby was able to meet her great-grandparents, my mom’s husband, Raymond, and several of my aunts, uncles and cousins for the first time. Very exciting. We loved spending time with everyone. Shelby attend her first bridal luncheon and even sat next to Aunt Vicki, the bride to be. Fun girl time.
Brotherly love: Shelby LOVES her brother. She wants to be where he is…doing what he is doing. When he isn’t around, she looks for him. Shelby lights ups, smiles and runs to Levi when they are reunited. She throws her arms around him and they usually tumble to the
Favorite Activities: Playing outside, play with balls, climbing, throwing anything she finds in the trash, carrying her baby, trying on shoes, talking on her phone, playing trucks, playing in the kitchen drawers, snuggling in her blanket, brushing her teeth, rocking (herself) in the big chair, putting lids on/off any type of container or marker, coloring, and playing in water. Shelby also enjoys rides in Levi’s big truck. She climbs in and Levi pushes her around the drive.
Big Girl: There area few things that make Shelby feel special, proud and all grown up. When we brush her teeth, she leans forwards with a huge grin just waiting for the brushing to begin. After we brush her teeth, its Shelby’s turn. She mostly sucks on the tooth brush, but she sure is proud of herself. Shelby also beams with pride as she dips her food in sauce, and drinks from mommy’s cup. It’s the little things that bring her such joy!
Personality: Independent, cautious, playful, determined, tender hearted/sensitive and loving.
