Just recently, I was driving home from the Y and saw a sign advertising SoccerTots. I came home and told Ryan about it. We visited their website for details. As we read over the information we became really excited about all this program has to offer. So, we decided to go for it. The program is an eight week program that meets once a week for 50 minutes—all indoors! (Thankful in this heat and humidity).
A week ago, was Levi’s first lesson. He was so excited. He wore his “soccer jersey” that Paw-Paw and Nina brought him last summer. It was important to Levi that he wear it to soccer.
Levi’s coaches are Coach Ross and Coach Shelby. Yep, that's right, very familiar names to us. Makes it easy to remember. They’re both great with the kids—creative, patient and fun.
Soccertots is more of a skill-based class them a soccer team. It exposes the kids to soccer, the fundamental of soccer (like kicking, running control, dribbling) and soccer terminology. These skills are taught through fun games with lots of physical activity. There’s also a lot of emphasis placed on listening and following directions. The class has been a perfect fit for Levi—very active, fun but challenging. He is LOVING IT!
We’ve been able to attend as a family, which has been so much fun. We’re encouraged to participate as much or as little as we like. We’ve been able to encourage Levi, praise him, help redirect him when needed and just support him in something he is passionate about. Its been so much fun. Even Shelby enjoys being there!
Stretches
Practicing ball control.
Running and Running and Running…
Water Break. Levi runs over to us and says in his exhausted-I’m-dying-of-thirst-voice, “waaater!” We hand him his water. Then, he throws his head back sucking down the water. After his drink, he gives us the bottle and says, “BYE!” in his happy voice as he runs off! Such a character this one!
Listening to instructions! (This is Coach Ross)
GOAL!
