Birthday Week!

Last week we spent the whole week celebrating Levi. We’ve been talking a lot about birthdays this summer. We’ve had several friends and family members with birthdays, which have been a great opportunity to teach Levi about birthdays. We’ve shared with him that a birthday is a day we celebrate someone's life—letting them know just how special and loved they are. We’ve also had several opportunities to give gifts instead of just receiving them. I will say, he did get just as excited about picking out and giving a gift as he does about receiving gifts.

As Levi’s birthday was drawing near, I wanted him to experience the excitement and love as we celebrate who he is. So, we decided to celebrate all week. We started by making a birthday countdown calendar. Each morning we tore one of the links off of Levi’s cake and counted how many more days until his birthday.

Each day we did a “favorite” something of Levi’s.

Monday: Watched the Garbage Men puck up our trash and took a trip to the Park.

Tuesday: Pump It Up (an indoor inflatable place to jump, climb, slide and run).

Wednesday: Swimming at the Y

Thursday: Movie and Ice cream Day. We watched Horton Hears the Who and then later that afternoon stopped for ice-cream while we were out. However, we realized Levi had never had ice cream until now. He’s had soft serve several times and liked it. But never had ice cream. Surprisingly, he did not like it. He spit it out, said “yucky” and asked for something hot. Guess we’ll need to try it again soon…

Friday: His Birthday! Family Party and Swimming in the pool.

I’ll do another post about his birthday, but for now wanted to share how we spent last week gearing up for the big day. Don’t want to overwhelm you with too many pictures. Stay tuned…
